2 Steps to a Happier You (or how to let go of that sh**)

Here is a technique that can bring you peace, calm, happiness, better health, and a happier you.

When you are sad, angry, frustrated, disappointed your stress level goes up. When your stress level goes up your immune system goes down. When your immune system goes down you get sick. Let’s change all this from the start with a technique I use to clear emotions that can get you down.

The Almond in the Brain

There is a little bundle of nerves in the brain that stores emotion, the amygdala. The amygdala is connected to both fear and pleasure and all the emotions that can elicit fear and pleasure. Think of the amygdala as the processing center for your emotions. Once the emotions are processed you body will either be ready to fight, flee, freeze, or relax. It takes a lot of energy from every cell in the body to prepare for fighting, fleeing, and even freezing because this requires you to be on high alert. That is one of the reasons we say emotions are held in the cells.

Move Them On Out

If we can move the energy needed for negative emotions out of our cells we can get back to a relaxed state. Psychotherapy is great for this and I highly recommend everyone have a psychotherapist on speed dial. This technique is not a replacement for psychotherapy.

Step 1

Speak or write out all the negative emotions you are experiencing. Emotions like sad, angry, frustrated, disappointed, and lonely. Click here for a list of emotions that you can use as prompts.

Step 2

Each time you speak or write out one of the emotions, really feel it as you did in the situation before moving on to the next one.
